We are not answerable to you - Ijaw monarchs tell Edwin Clark

Ijaw traditional rulers have declared that they are not subject to Chief Edwin Clark.

According to reports, the monarchs made the declaration after Clark bashed them for meeting with the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, without his knowledge.

Speaking on behalf of Ijaw monarchs, paramount ruler of Seimbiri Kingdom, HRM King I. Timiyan (JP), said “It was careless of Chief Clark to say that leaders, who went to Abuja, got no mandate from him. As traditional rulers and custodians of the tradition of our people, if anything befalls our people and not in line with peace, we have to be seen as doing things to take care of their interest.

“Therefore, we have every right to interface with whoever in the land to bring about the desired peace. When there are attacks and bombings, our people are affected. We need to be seen as proactive. We started meeting in different forms, went to Bayelsa, Uyo, came to Delta and have been to Abuja, all in trying to bring succour for our people.”

“As traditional rulers, we are not liable to the whims and caprices of Chief E.K Clark. He is our subject and when he calls meetings and we leave our palaces and go to his place, it is an honour that we have done to him but it appears he has taken that for granted; therefore, that honour is hereby withdrawn.”

  1. Edwin Clark. What has he done for his people? Supported the hatred of the SE brothers and dumped his people at the feet of northerners. He kept quite until now while his people suffered.

  2. I use to criticize d south south region alot until I saw all the atrocities and neglects over there.I will never support the militants who I feel are thugs trying to line their pockets to keep quiet and let the raping of the region continue.I believe the federal government need to take over the development of the area directly, and they must develop it the same way they developed Abuja from oil money.I am appalled that people like Clark can still talk in that region with the way they plundered or allowed previous administration to neglect d region while collecting hush money until they were out of favor, and now they want to talk. The people in that region should bring chaos to their door steps,we need to start taking charge in our country and stop going by d whims of our so called elders whose expertise is to steal and plunder d country's wealth.Since independence, they have been at d helm of affairs and with little to nothing to show for it.The people need to start protesting n burning down their interests and let them know they are not welcome. Why are they fighting for free money when they can stipulate that they want certain quota of their people to be employed by the oil companies in d region, earmark certain development u want done and within a certain time frame, cleanup of all the pollution in there.Soft loan to encourage entrepreneurship, massive development of infrastructure that will encourage big companies to relocate there. They are not asking for all this, they want to be paid and not to be prosecuted for their massive looting. As soon as they are settled and given assurance that they will not be probed, they will keep quiet and call off their dogs. The people must not allowed that to happen, the south south must be developed and taken from the leeches
