Russia 2018: New Super Eagles coach confident of Nigeria's qualification and chances

Newly appointed Nigeria technical adviser Gernot Rohr believes the country will perform well at the 2018 Fifa World Cup Russia under the right atmosphere.

The 63-year-old German signed a two-year contract to handle the Super Eagles on Tuesday and his first task is to get past Zambia in October’s World Cup qualifier.

Speaking after putting pen to paper in a low key event at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, the former Gabon handler is confident he will deliver with the right backing.

“I have a German heart – the heart of a winner,” Rohr told the NFF website.

“I have confidence that with the right atmosphere and the right support, the Super Eagles have the capacity not only to qualify for the Fifa World Cup, but get to the latter stages of the competition.”

NFF boss Amaju Pinnick is delighted that the Super Eagles now have a substantive handler and all hands will be on deck to ensure a successful outing during the World Cup qualifiers.

“We are happy that this has been sealed and we can now focus on other arrangements for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers starting in October,” said Pinnick.

Rohr, whose target is to qualify the country for the 2018 Fifa World Cup, Russia is billed to embark on VIP scouting with immediate effect which includes flying to Spain to watch the NPFL All-Stars play against Atletico Madrid and Malaga in the Trofoe Carranza tournament.
