Rio Olympics: Oduduru Faces Bolt In 200m

Former IAAF World Junior 200m silver medallist Divine Oduduru has been drawn to run in the same heat as reigning world and Olympic 200m champion Usain Bolt of Jamaica as the half lap event takes centre stage in Rio, Brazil on Tuesday.

Oduduru, who declared the intimidating status of the Jamaican does not scare him, will have the chance to live up to his reckless outburst as he lines out in lane eight of the ninth heat of the 200m event at 4.46pm Nigerian time.

Bolt will run from lane five and will be the favourite to clinch one of the three automatic tickets for the semi-final.

Also listed to run in the same heat as the Nigerian are Sudan's Ahmed Ali who has run 20.16 this year, Japan's Kei Takase who holds a personal season's best of 20.31 seconds, Belgium's Jonathan Borlee and Norway's Jaysuma Saidy Ndure who has run 20.43 seconds this year.

Oduduru holds a personal season's best of 20.47 seconds and will need to run faster than that to ensure qualification for the semis.

Also billed to run in the 200m event is Tega Odele who made his first major international bow last year at the IAAF Worlds in Beijing.

Odele, with a 21.04 personal season's best, is drawn in lane one of the third heat and looks set to end his Olympic ambition early.

Also making a bow today is Ese Brume who will compete in the long jump event.

The African and Commonwealth long jump queen who holds a personal season's best of 6.83m achieved last June in Akure at the finals of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria Golden League only needs to jump 6.75m to ensure her passage to Wednesday's final.

Junior international Amusan Tobiloba will also be in action today. The University of Texas in El Paso sprint hurdler has been drawn in lane six of the fifth heat of the 100m hurdles which starts at 3.33pm.

If the young Nigerian finds the form that earned her a 12.83 seconds personal best in April, she will be among the three automatic qualifiers for the semi-finals which takes place on Wednesday.
