Novak Djokovic has admitted he was battling personal issues when he was knocked out of Wimbledon in the third round after a shock defeat by Sam Querrey.
On Friday night the world No 1 detailed his physical struggles, a wrist injury, in the lead up to his upcoming US Open defence.
He then revealed unspecified problems in his private life were linked to his disappointing performance in London this year.
“I am in a position, like everybody else, like all of you, we all have private issues and things that are more challenges than issues," he said after drawing Poland's Jerzy Janowicz in the first round of the American Grand Slam.
“More things that we have to encounter and overcome in order to evolve as a human being.
“That (Wimbledon) was the period for me. It happened right there. It was resolved and life is going on like everything else.
“It was some other thing I was going through privately and nothing linked to the wrist injury.
“Everything is fine. Life is going on.”
