The Jigawa State Governor, Muhammad Badaru, on Saturday, said he had released the sum of N280 million for the 2016 hajj operation.
Mr. Badaru made this disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) after the departure of some intending pilgrims from the state at Dutse International Airport to Saudi Arabia.
He explained that the money would be used for the feeding of the pilgrims and other contingencies during the hajj in the holy land.
According to him, the same amount was approved and released for the expenditure of 2015 pilgrimage.
“The State Government has done everything possible to take care of our pilgrims and make them comfortable in the holy land,” he said.
The governor said the pilgrims were advised to abide by the rules set out by the Hajj Commission, adding that this was why their screening was thorough.

People are dying of kworshiokor hardship malnutrition and hopelessness and a the state government is giving out this kind of money for a thing that ought to be strictly private and personal affairs. It is high time all level of government stop subsidizing all manners of religious pilgrimage. It is unfortunate.

ReplyDeleteWhy will the north not remain the most backward region in Nigeria? When their leaders are so myopic and lack any tangible plans to emancipate their teeming population. They use their own moneys (meant for the state) to sponsor a private responsibility of religious followers.
ReplyDeleteWhy would the region not become and continue to be breeding ground for terrorists and extremists? When majority of their population are not educated and the few educated ones amongst them do everything possible to ensure that the majority remain uneducated so they can continue to be lords over them.
