Ijaw youths react to intense search for crude oil in North

The Ijaw Youth Council has lauded the accelerated search for oil in Northern Nigeria by President Muhammadu Buhari and northern governors but said the move is coming at the wrong time.

A statement signed by the council's spokesman, Eric Omare, said President Buhari-led government should focus on diversifying the nation’s ailing economy, especially areas where the different regions had comparative advantage over the other.

“Ordinary, the IYC would be excited by not just a Presidential directive to explore for oil in any part of the North but discovery of oil in the North. This is so because we strongly believe that the struggle of the people of the Niger Delta region for equitable distribution of oil money would become a reality once oil is found in the North as well.”

  1. This is a wake up call to South West. Let us search, discover and develop oil in our region. We cant afford to rely on Niger Delta region for ever. Just as oil is found in Lagos State, same can be discovered in virtually all states of S/W if we search for it.
We should stop morning when we have potential for growth and development.

    2. No oil was found in Lagos state. It was just a ruse. Evidence proves that oil found was in Delta state but tactically taped from the ground to come out in Lagos state. Asked Tompolo and always listen to the Niger Delta news report to confirm this. If you doubt why don't they start drilling the oil since and give allocation to Lagos state let's see how the owner of it will react. Don't be deceived, Lagos itself knows this.

  4. Let the monopoly be broken.

It is still a shame that Niger Delta ruled the country for 6 years and they are still crying fro development in their community......BIG SHAME

If the people from the community can not developed it in 6 years, how will they blame the outsider in less than 1 year.
