An ex-militant group which, two days ago accepted to be part of the peaceful negotiation proposed by Niger Delta leaders, yesterday, gave insight into what it will request the Federal Government to do during the dialogue.
It said in a statement by its leader, Mr Paul Toruwei, that “The amnesty programme should be well funded and allowed to run effectively while the government must fulfil its promise to build houses for ex-militants in the Niger Delta region.
“There should be automatic employment of graduates in the areas of operation of major oil companies and the oil/pipeline surveillance contracts should be awarded to the youths of such places. “All oil polluted lands in the Niger Delta area should be cleaned up and compensation paid to all affected oil producing communities.” Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

The part about employing graduates by the oil company and cleaning up d oil spill are valid points, and they must be met.I however feel the government will be insane to build houses and continue to pay some useless thugs monthly stipends when the said amount can be earmarked to youths, entrepreneurs as a form of grants to start their own business should they want to.Paying some jobless touts will only lead to some new ones hoping to get paid as well.Nigeria isn't that rich to sustain that
