Why Nigeria extended Eid-il-Fitr holiday to Thursday

“Non-sighting of the moon”

The Federal Government on Tuesday extended the Eid-il-Fitr holiday to Thursday.

A statement issued by the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau, in Abuja quoted the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, as saying the Ramadan fast continues on Tuesday due to the “non-sighting of the moon” heralding the month of Shawwal in the Muslim calendar.

Sultan Abubakar is the President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.
Dambazau noted that the federal government has now declared Wednesday and Thursday as public holiday.

I tender my sincere apologies for the recent absence of the moon. It has been in my possession for the past one week. My top scientists have been carring out a critical study on it as I intend to establish a moon factory that shall commence production from December 2016. However, the moon shall be made available for all again at 2.00 a.m. today unfailing.
Thank you all for your usual understanding.

  2. Hello Nigerians! !! Expect more days of public holiday for the moon ain't gonna come, you cannot incarcerate and bottled-up Nigerians in agony of hardship, poverty and slavery in this physical world and expect to do same to the Spiritual World governing this physical world. You will NEVER sight the moon at least for the now. Perhaps, Buhari and his team at this time as usual will castigate the blems, the delay and even the refusal of the moon to surface on GEJ. Nigerians my people please understand the time, this is very unusual and there are consequences to this omen. The heavenly have spoken, let those that have ears hear and those with eyes see.

  4. Incompetence! Everyone expected the holidays to be Wednesday and Thursday but the Minister hastily declared Tuesday and Wednesday!! I don't know where he got his fact from? Did he consult with the scientists and the Met Department before declaring the holiday? He just declared it in the midst of a press conference on another matter!!

  6. BREAKING NEWS: NEW ISLAMIC SYMBOL
    -Sura Mei'suya

Owing to the current state of uncertainty of the end of the Ramadan in Nigeria, the Nigerian Conglomerate of Islamic Scholars in collaboration with the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs have resolved during a closed door meeting at about 1.15am today, that the crescent moon (new moon) should be removed and no longer be part of the Islamic symbol in Nigeria. This leaves the symbol with only a star.
While addressing the press early this morning in a media chat, it was gathered that the reason for this is that the moon can no longer be trusted since there exists only one, but on the contrary, all stars cannot vanish at the same time.
Questions about what the reactions of other Islamic countries would be were rebuffed by the attendees of the meeting as it was obvious that confussion was looming allover their faces.
More updates shall be brought to you as new events unfold.
