We’ve no fraud information on Nigerian first lady, Aisha Buhari – US

The United States government says it has no information on the alleged crimes committed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s wife, Aisha.

The acting Public Affairs Officer, US Consulate General, Lagos, Frank Sellin, said this in an email sent to our correspondent on Tuesday.

Sellin said this in response to an enquiry made by Punch Newspaper regarding allegations that the President’s wife was wanted in the US and was avoiding travelling to the country.

In a message, Sellin said, “Thank you for the inquiry. We have no information to provide on this matter.”

The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, had, last month, alleged that Mrs. Buhari was involved in the $185m Halliburton scandal.

While reacting to the freezing of his Zenith Bank accounts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Fayose claimed that the wife of the President was a wanted person in the US.

He had said, “Even the President cannot claim to be an angel. The estate he built in Abuja is known to us. His wife was indicted in the Halliburton scandal. When that American, Jefferson, was being sentenced, the President’s wife was mentioned as having wired $170,000 to Jefferson. Her name was on page 25 of the sentencing of Jefferson. We can serialise the judgment for people to see and read.”

Fayose repeated the claim in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi. He said Aisha refused to travel with the President to the US because of her involvement in the scandal.

  1. Where are the haters and supporters of the "thug governor"?
Fayose is so clueless that he never gets anything right!
It's so annoying that even with the evidences of corruption staring at him in the face, he's still making mouth. I'm not surprised really...empty barrels make the loudest noise. His types like Olisa Metuh and Fani Kayode have already been put to shame after making a hell of a noise.
In a sane society, Fayose should have been long gone with the key role he played in the ekitigate scandal.

  3. But the embassy emails does not remove the cloak of suspicion on Aisha. All looters should have a day in court and jail if not able to defend themselves. Whether fayose or Aisha

  4. @anonymous 4:00am, don't be a fool, the enquiry was made at the wrong place and reply was simple, “Thank you for the inquiry. We have no information to provide on this matter.” Has this exonerated her? The answer is no, she should travel to the US full stop.

  5. Having no information does not mean yes or no its a neutral statement. God help us in this world of deceith we are in.

  6. US consulate in Lagos? The headline made it seem like Obama himself exonerated her in detail. US indeed. What nonsense fluff reporting. How does a blank, FU/F-off reply from a general mailbox of the Lagos embassy exonerate her? "We have no information to provide on this matter" simply means they cannot respond on such matters especially to some punk newspaper's email. This is junk reporting NE. Truly the lowest, dirtiest kind of false reporting.

  8. Aisha Buhari should then stop avoiding going to the USA. Let her go and clear up herself other than some men in Nigeria here giving us some political statement

  9. I think the problem we have in Nigeria is inability to read in-between the lines or probably we read upside down. There is a saying that says "if you want to hide anything from a black man, put it in print". The acting Public Affairs Officer, US Consulate simply says "Thank you for the inquiry. We have no information to provide on this matter.”...Has this statement exonerates her?

    1. The statement has neither exonerate nor incriminate her. So, what's the problem here? The whole thing is 'pari passu'. You still stand where you're.

  10. “Thank you for the inquiry. We have no information to provide on this matter.” The keyword here is "provide." You don't expect the embassy to provide you with information that is within the purview of the court. Also, a lot comes into play when it comes to international relations (Diplomacy). US may even prefer to keep the case under wraps in order to have their way in Nigerian matters. Call it leverage, if you like. Follow the executive's body language vis a vis USA.

  11. no fraud information or no information ... what type of journalism is this? the no information can already be construed as exonerating but to write "No Fraud" that just shows you up as FRAUDULENT !!!

  13. "we have no information to provide on this matter" is a staled comment like i am not interested in this stuff or i cant comment on this because i am not authorised to do so. It also could mean that i am not the agency involve in the investigation hence cannot say anything in this regards. It could mean that such information is highly classified on the need to know basis therefore enquiry from Punch Newspaper is not in the category of those to access such information. On other hand it could mean that they sincerely have no information on the subject person in that regards. So it neither said Yes nor No in vindicating the SUSPECT. ITS JUST COMMON SENSE.

  16. For all those saying she should visit the US, I'm sure if you all process it for her she would go. Some of us just type rubbish here, it's not like she's been travelling all over the world and US invited her and she refused to go. I also wanna believe that if she was actually involved in the scam, it would have been out since especially during the period before the elections. All these are just efforts to drag PMB and his family down

    1. Funny enough the information has been online for long just that Fayose reignited it that's all. If she agrees i will personally sponsor her to and fro including accommodation for her and her entire entourage, let her just say yes that's all.
