Senior players of Nigeria’s senior national team, the Super Eagles, have voted for Frenchman Le Guen to take charge as head coach from the list of three coaches picked by the technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, according to Completesportsnigeria.
The players who were contacted by the technical committee to have their views on the choice of the coach who will lead the Eagles charge for a World Cup ticket to Russia 2018 voted overwhelmingly for the coach that qualified Cameroun to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
A member of the techncial committee who chose to be anonymous said that the players the committee contacted chose Le Guen for what they said was for his good knowledge of African football, pedigree and record as a player and coach. The players did not mind the difference in language.
“The players we spoke with on the coach did not hesitate in picking Le Guen as their choice but we are not taking their choice as final because they are other indices we have to consider to decide who gets the job,” the committee member said. “The players have had their say, it is now left for us to choose and make our recommendation to the NFF executive committee.
“But I can tell that most members of the committee are tilted towards the Frenchman and at this stage I can say that the only hindrance stopping Le Guen from getting the job will come from the area of wages and other remunerations . Aside from these, the job as good as his to take.
“The players are also of the view that coach Salisu Yusuf should assist Le Guen since he knows the players better and most of the committee members share this players’ view and will recommend the same to the NFF. I think the coaches we shall recommend will bond well, judging from from our interactions with them.”
