The battle is not over yet, I remain PDP Chairman - Sheriff

It appears as if the last is yet to be heard of the crisis tearing at the heart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as Ali Modu Sheriff, factional chairman of the party, has vowed to continue with his court cases.

Sheriff’s statement is in opposition to that of Walid Jibrin, chairman of the opposition party’s board of trustees (BoT).

Speaking at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting of the PDP in Abuja on Thursday, Jibrin said there were plans to withdraw all cases in court.

He said he led a group to meet with Sheriff on Wednesday night, and the meeting ended in the wee hours of Thursday.

Jibrin, who spoke in a manner suggesting that Sheriff had accepted peace, fixed a time-frame of two weeks for the crisis to be over.

But speaking on Saturday, Sheriff denied entering into any agreement with any group.

The factional leader, who spoke through Cairo Ojougboh, his deputy, vowed to pursue the cases in court.

“I have the express permission of Sheriff to inform our teeming supporters and PDP faithful nationwide that he has not reached agreement with anybody, neither has he permitted anybody to conclude on any processes on his behalf,” he said.

“We are continuing with our cases in court, we respect the rule of law. Sheriff will address a press conference on Monday on the state of our party.”
