Super Eagles drop to 70th in FIFA ranking, see who topped rankings

Super Eagles ofNigeria have dropped a distance nine places in the latest FIFA ranking released on Thursday by the world football governing body.

Nigeria is now ranked 70th in the world for the month of July as against June’s 61st spot.

The Super Eagles also dropped five places on the continent of Africa, moving to 17th position from the 12th place occupied on June.

Algeria held on to the top spot in Africa despite making no move in the July ranking. Ivory Coast took a step up globally to occupy the 32th position and seating on the 2nd spot on the continent.

Ghana, Senegal and Egypt complete the top five team in Africa. While Tunisia, Cameroon, Morocco, DR Congo and Mali are in the top ten.

Despite Portugal’s success at the Euro 2016, Argentina remain at the summit of the July FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, but only after a tumultuous month of action that resulted in plenty of movement further down.

The impact of three recent major international tournaments – the OFC Nations Cup, Copa America Centenario and UEFA EURO 2016 – is certainly plain to see in a table in which Kosovo are ranked for the first time.

A total of 228 ‘A’ internationals contributed to the new order, with those big events in Oceania, Europe and the Americas especially important in propelling nations upwards.
