Speaking during a dinner organised for religious leaders, security agencies and media practitioners in his palace in Sokoto at the weekend, he lamented that anything negative was being attributed to Muslims, Fulani (herdsmen) and Hausa, even as there were other people committing heinous crimes elsewhere but were not linked to religion and ethnicity.
His words, “When there is a vacant position and a Hausa man is appointed, we call it ‘northernization and when a Muslim leader visits an Islamic country, we say he is trying to Islamize Nigeria, while there are many people from other religion and tribes manning other offices and we witness many Christian leaders who have visited Christian countries but nobody said they were planning to Christianize the country.”

The reason why criminality like killings and bombings and riots are associated with islam is because it is those who commit such acts that expressly say they are doing so in the name of Islam. In most cases they draw inspiration for their action from the Koran, the Islamic holy book. So, my dear Sultan, if the perpetrators of such evil are the ones associating with Islam, why are you blaming other people?
ReplyDeleteTo my mind there is something fundamentally wrong with the ideology or theology of Islam. That must be the reason for Muslims seeing nothing wrong in regarding adherents of other faiths as second - class citizens who must be dominated by Muslims, suicide bombing and killing all those who do not share their views.
For the whole of my lifetime, I have not seen or heard of a single soul committing any evil acts in the name of Christianity. Even if Jesus is abused, Christians never take up arms against anybody because they believe Jesus is divine, all powerful and capable of dealing with those who commit blasphemy against Him. NOT SO WITH MUSLIMS and the basic reason is that the founder of Islam was violent and intolerant while that of Christianity was peaceful, loving and forgiving.

ReplyDeleteI voted Buhari in the hope that he will truly bring change and sanity to Nigeria, but I have also resigned myself to the fact that in doing so Nigeria now belongs to the North and the rest of us are a minority. The Sultan needs to be truthful to himself if he truly does not see that most of the appointments Buhari has made and will continue to make are to promote his northern brothers. It is unfortunate he (Buhari) has forgotten his statement at his inauguration.
ReplyDeleteMoving forward at the next election I intend to mobilise as many as I can so that a northerner will not be president again. Any party fielding a northerner as president will not get my vote and I hope many will join me in this quest.
You just echoed my thoughts exactly! I really had hope in pmb but alas, he is just as bigoted as the next hausa/Fulani. It's a shame. He came on board with so much goodwill but he has lost it and will continue to do so if he continues this way. It is well. This is a wake up call to us all to scrutinize properly and not base our judgment on mere propaganda.

DeleteFirst, it is a known fact that the West and the South has more educated and competent people than the north. Politics is the only reason why northerners hold key positions in this country. So to tell me that the most competent people to run every single apparatus of government are notherners is a complete lie. The entire security apparatus of the nation is currently in the hands of northerners, the NNPC is now in the hands of a northerner. If not for the process of election, Buhari would make northerners governors of all the states in Nigeria.
