REVEALED: Reasons why Twitter blocked Niger Delta Avengers’ account

Twitter suspended the account of Niger Delta Avengers, yesterday, following the group’s announcement on the micro-blogging site that it had carried out five attacks on key oil installations in the last few days.

Although Twitter does not comment on individual accounts for privacy and security reasons, a spokesman for the site said, Avengers account was suspended in line with the company’s policy, which detailed specific rule pertaining to violent threats.

The rule says that “you may not make threats of violence or promote violence, including threatening or promoting terrorism.”

The Avengers allegedly contravened this rule by using a Twitter account as its main form of communication, using it to publicize claims of attacks and as a platform to criticise the Federal Government.

In February, Twitter said it had shut down more than 125,000 terrorism-related accounts since the middle of 2015, most of which were linked to the Islamic State group.

Meanwhile, environmentalist and rights activist, Ann-Kio Briggs, yesterday, said that the resumption of hostilities by Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, was because the Federal Government refused to address the long time neglect of Niger- Delta region.

This is coming, barely 24 hours after the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, recommenced fresh attacks on oil facilities in the Niger Delta region, while another militant group, Ultimate Warriors of Niger Delta, UWND, has pulled out of the temporal ceasefire agreement, saying that the Dialogue Committee constituted by the Federal Government was a diversionary ploy.

The group by its spokesperson, Sibiri Taiowoh, blamed President Muhammadu Buhari for its action, adding that his policy reversals would rebound on him.

  2. It is quite unfortunate that these so-called Niger Delta elites don't think at all. They think they are hurting the Nigerian state by encouraging their foot soldiers to continue bombing and destroying oil infrastructures in their region, not knowing that what hurts Nigeria hurts their own people more. They are using the senseless and uneducated militants to promote their own agenda when they could not account for all the resources released to them in the past, even so when more was released to them during the immediate past regime. What you must know is that Nigeria will not go broke even if you bomb the whole oil wells in your region, as there are other undeclared and undocumented sources of income in this great country.
So, which oil well is the next, quickly go and blow it, you buffoons!

  4. These so called rights activists are nothing, but, self-servants who believe in relevance with any government in power (AGIP). It's easy for this Ann-Kio Briggs to blame the current administration. While her own person, Jonathan was in government, she didn't see anything wrong with that government.
