Nigeria’s unity is negotiable – Afenifere tells Buhari

Pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere has frowned at the stance of President Muhammadu Buhari that the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable.

Buhari had on Wednesday warned Niger Delta militants calling for the emancipation of the region over their perceived maginalisation to lay down their arms, stressing that the country must remain united at all cost.

Responding to the President’s comment, National Publicity Secretary of the body, Yinka Odumakin claimed that Nigeria has already been divided under the very watch of the President.

He stressed that the President might not be reading the mood of the nation correctly, the Punch reports.

According to Odumakin, “I think the President is a sincere man but he may not be reading the mood correctly.

“The country is divided under him than before. Amalgamation and armed dialogue are going on all around us over the unity of Nigeria which many sections perceive has treated them unfairly.

“To continue to insist that the unity is not negotiable is aping that bird which buries its head in the sand and believes, because it is seeing nobody, it has become invisible too.”

  1. Afenifere do not represent the Yorubas any more. These spent forces do not even command the respect of neighbours where they live talkless of any Yoruba person.

  2. You are not a recognized person in Yoruba land. Your criticism will not attract any naira or dollar patronage from presidency. It is no more business as usual. If you care to know Nigeria is still one uptil now, nobody knows that of tomorrow. Nigeria is dividing under Buhari just because he said no to corruption and no more padded budget with free money for politicians. We know that this TSA is heating hard on all of you, try to adjust, Baba had just said everybody should embrace farming so that we can diversify. I believe that is the best because even if Nigeria split any lazy zone will still remain poor. It is then you will know that the North population together with their abundant arable farmland and mineral resources is a blessing.

  3. Just like Jonathan was held hostage by sycophants am afraid Buhari is now held down from reasoning by sycophants too. This sycophants are afraid of Mr Tinoombu's hold on the party. They will soon tell Baba that Tinoombu is a dirty rag, then Baba will try to discard him,, but Tinoombu and his guys will fight back, i foresee Bukola saraki and his crew joining forces with Tinoombu after realising their mistake in fielding Baba.. This is politics, no permanent friends or enemies or interests...i dey laff ooo!

  7. It is not negotiable because the oil found in Lagos Ondo and the ones to be found in South - west states must be used to develop Kastina Kebbi and must be used to rebuild Borno! Ci kena! True federalism does not guarantee that.
