Murdered Abuja preacher to be buried on her birthday

About two weeks after her assassination by alleged Islamic fundamentalists in Kubwa area of the Federal Capital Territory, the family of the late Eunice Olawale Elisha on Tuesday announced that the deceased would be buried on July 23, 2016.

A brother to the deceased, Mr. Akun Oluwadare, told journalists that the family had concluded arrangement to properly bury her on July 23, a day that “coincided with her birthday celebration.”

The 42-year-old mother of seven and pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, was murdered while preaching the gospel of Christ at Gbazango-West area of Kubwa.

Oluwadare said, “The Christian wake will come up on Friday, July 22 by 5pm at the RCCG Provincial Headquarters, Phase Three, Kubwa. The burial service is fixed for Saturday, July 23, which coincided with her birthday by 12pm at the same venue. Interment will follow immediately at Gudu Cemetry, Abuja.”

Meanwhile, a group of Christians under the aegis of National Christian Elders’ Forum, has blamed Islamic leaders in the country for what it called “unprovoked attacks” on Christians across the country.

The organisation warned that Nigeria would only remain a nation that all the citizens would be proud to call their home provided Islamic leaders ceased to champion “doctrine of hatred and promote democracy which guarantees freedom of choice for all the citizens.”

Key members of NCEF include Mr. Solomon Asemota (SAN), (Chairman); Gen. Joshua Dogonyaro (retd.); Prof. Joseph Otubu, Gen. Zamani Lekwot (retd.), Dr. Kate Okpareke, Dr. Ayo Abifarin, Bishop Joseph Bagobiri, Archbishop Magnus Atilade, Elder Moses Ihonde, Elder Nat Okoro and Prof. Vincent Anigbogu.

Others are Gen. Ishaku Dikko (retd.), Justice Kalajine Anigbogu (retd.), Elder Shyngle Wigwe, DIG P. L. Dabup, Sir John W. Bagu, Dr. Saleh Hussaini, Elder Mike Orobator, Chief Olaniwun Ajayi, Justice M. Ogebe (retd), Mrs. Priscilla Kuye, Chief Debo Omotosho, Dr. Musa Asake, Joseph Daramola and Pastor Olatunbosun Emmanuel (Secretary).

Asemota had in a statement titled, “Nigeria: Tottering on the edge of the precipice,” condemned the gruesome assassination of Mrs. Olawale by alleged Islamic fundamentalists.

According to him, the murder of Elisha was another addition to the unwarranted serial murder of Christians by Islamic assailants in the country.
