According to player infrographics by sporticos.com after Ighalo netting a staggering 14 goals by the end of January, Ighalo was touted to vie for the golden boot by some distance.
Eventually, Ighalo became less of a hidden quantity as the season progressed due to heightened awareness and attention to his deadly potential.
And whilst he struggled for goals in the second half of the season, a barren spell in front of goal didn’t - and shouldn't - diminish what he achieved and the impact he made with Watford.
Sculpted with a stocky frame, Ighalo was able to use his attribute to bully and navigate his way past defenders and ultimately slot in goals with aplomb - with 15 EPL goals serving as a commendable
return from the former Granada hitman.
Further, his hold up play and layoffs saw his rack up four assists during the course of the season.
As football fans await the 2016/2017 season with bated breath, Ighalo would be hoping to enjoy more consistency in front of goal as opposed to the lopsided form he exhibited last season.
The prize, however, is for him to be ready to entertain more rest (to forestall burn-out) and more competition (to sustain motivation).
