DRAMA: Ambassadorial nominee unable to recite National Anthem and pledge, does not know the capital of Lagos

The Senate yesterday began the screening of the 47 ambassadorial nominees.

The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs is charged with the responsibility of screening the nominees.

Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Senator Ita Enang, led the nominees to the screening venue.

But it was all drama as some of the nominees failed to recite the National Anthem and Pledge.

One of them could not say the capital of Lagos State as she insisted that the capital of Lagos is Lagos instead of Ikeja. Her answer threw the audience into a hilarious session for several minutes.

Some others wobbled and fumbled as they laboured to recite the National Anthem and Pledge.

Some of the committee members expressed embarrassment that career diplomats could not recite the country’s National Anthem.

Even when a committee member, Senator James Manager, gave one of the nominees a window of escape, the nominee could still not recite the National Pledge.

One of the committee members said: “What we saw today shows the quality of those we are sending to represent the country in other countries.”

The committee will submit its report to the Senate in plenary for final approval before the list will be sent back to President Muhammadu Buhari.

  2. Even Buhari can not recite the national anthem which is why he refused to present himself for a presidential debate for the 2015 presidential election, but yet bunch of illiterates and low mentality people voted him in. So it is an indication that we are ruled by bunch of illiterates which causes a maze to the country and am not surprise. Let's expect more.

  9. Haba, Naija....

If they were not given the opportunity to embarrass themselves, you will say PMB is sectional etc,.

They were selected based on the assessments during the GEJ/PDP era. Now we can see the products of GEJ/PDP era.

  12. For me, giving someone a Professional job or position is not to be attached to the recitation of National Anthem. It is high time even the Senate should stop embarrassing themselves with this sort of rubbish interview. Even members of the Senate can not recite the Anthem. The National Anthem is not a sentence it was words put together by someone else like a poem. I also know an American who can not recite the American Anthem, when I laughed at him, he told me that this is someone else words and idea put on paper.

  17. Some members of the screening committee are worst. A proper screening should be set aside for every office holder in the country before electing them into office. I can get my money that Buhari can't recite the National Anthem and pledge. A President who don't know the full meaning of APC is own party. That his how these bunch of illiterate and lazy readers are appointed into office. For records why are the names of these set of people not published????

  19. Any nominee who fails to sing the National anthem should be outrighly disqualified...It shows there is no iota of Patriotism in such person...It calls to questioning the credibility of his/her Certificates...Well,as events are unfolding...

  20. The truth of the matter is most of those foreign carer people are corrupt. A lot of them in London are engaged in 419. There is one Mrs. Maria Bisong in the Nigeria Embassy London who goes about collecting money for the exchange of given VIP contacts to Nigerians. Unfortunately these guys are not worthy to represent Nigeria in any International level.
