Disappearance of police vehicles: 'You could have called or texted me' - Arase tells Ibrahim

Immediate-past Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase (Retd), on Monday, denied the allegation by his successor, Acting IGP Ibrahim Idris, that he (Arase) took away 24 police vehicles while leaving office.

It can be recalled that Idris, yesterday, in an interaction with some reporters in Abuja, alleged that from preliminary investigations, the former IGP Arase alone took 24 vehicles, while some of the retired Deputy Inspector-Generals of Police (DIG) also went away with quite many.

He said the police had already written to Arase and others to return the vehicles they took, as the former IGP was entitled to only four vehicles. However, reacting in a statement from London, where he is billed to attend the graduation ceremony of his son, Arase expressed shock over the allegation. He wondered why Idris, who could have sent him a “text message”, decided to address the media on the issue. He also denied receiving any letter from his successor on the development.

His words: “I suspect there must be a disconnect somewhere because every information needed by my successor are provided in my handover notes. “I’m also not aware that any letter was written to me because if there was any dropped in my house, someone would have alerted me.

“It’s unfortunate that this matter is being made a media issue because my successor has my telephone number and could have called me for any clarification or even sent me a text message rather than addressing the media on an issue well documented in my handover notes.”

Oga Arase, don't be bothered by this moron who has replaced you; clearly he has no clue on how to go about his police duties...a simple text message for do, but in his wisdom, the media made more sense. 6. Arase 1 - Idris 0. More reports on the matter as it unfolds coz I bet that Idris has a score to settle with Arase and go further than just accusing him of stealing cars.
