Court remands man for stealing N5,000 Elubo (Yam flour)

An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan will on Tuesday sentence a 42-year-old man, Abdulahi Mumuni, after he pleaded guilty to stealing yam flour worth N5, 000.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mumuni was arraigned in the court on a one-count charge of theft. The prosecutor, Sgt. Omilana Olufemi, told the court that the accused on Saturday at 8.30 a.m. stole the yam flour from a shop at Bodija Market in Ibadan.

The property belonged to one Alhaja Rafatu Kareem. Olufemi said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000. The Magistrate, Mr Taiwo Oladiran, ordered the convict to be remanded until Tuesday for sentencing. (NAN)

  3. Only Almighty Allah will revenge for the commoners in Nigeria where some Greedy Politicians have stolen the country dead.
Nobody encourages stealing but in a country where very small number of Nigerians considered themselves superior to other citizens of this blessed country, only Allah can rescue the poor citizens.
At the same time, I strongly encourage those that have little or nothing doing in our big cities to return to their towns or villages to find something doing to keep their honours. One day will be one day when dishonorable politicians will return begging for votes. At this time, they will be made to pay for their crook lives.

  4. Hehehehehehehehehehehehe. It is well. Stealing in any form is completely frowned upon and should not be encouraged. However if the fellow is a first time offender for a crime this trivial I believe the courts in their great wisdom can temper justice with mercy and allow this man go as it is a clear case of desperation that has led the accused down that road.

People now exchange their children for food, some their daughters for livestock.
