We owe Amodu just 2 months salary - NFF

Against the backdrop of criticisms condemning the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, over its failure to pay the late Coach Shuaibu Amodu, his salary arrears, the apex football authority in Nigeria, on Monday, said it’s only owing Amodu two months salaries.

It was alleged that the NFF was owing Amodu over 7 months of salary arrears, a development which football stakeholders said may have led to his sudden demise last Saturday.

A former Super Eagles goalkeeper, now Sports analyst, Peterside Idah had alleged that the federation owed the late coach close to seven months salary. Idah claimed he received a call from Amodu before his demise, intimating him of his backlog of unpaid salaries.

But in a swift reaction, the Secretary General, NFF, Mohammed Sanusi, today, admitted that the football body was owing the late Shuaibu Amodu two months salary and not seven months as being speculated.

The NFF scribe said Amodu like other management staff, was owed only two months salary. The NFF in a tweet via its verified Twitter handle, @thenff, said: “NFF Gen. Sec, Mohammed Sanusi has confirmed the Federation is owing late Coach Shuaibu Amodu salaries for two (2) months. “Every member of NFF Management is being owed salaries for two (2) months.

The NFF will pay all monies due late Amodu to his family.” Amodu, who was the Technical Adviser of the NFF, died in his sleep in the early hours of Saturday, after complaining of chest pains on Friday night. He was known to be hypertensive, and had rejected taking over the Super Eagles’ coaching job in February on this ground. In his four stints with the Super Eagles, Amodu won 26 of a total 53 matches, drawing 15 and losing 12. He had since been buried in his country home, Okpella in Edo State, according to Islamic rites.

  1. These patriotic Nigerian coaches are dying because greedy men in the NFF owe them money. Instead of the NFF to look into this, they are busy fighting over the chairmanship position so they can have access to advanced levels of financial corruption.

  3. Why did you owe him? Are owing yourselves? You will be there in office, the man that goes to field is working with empty stomach. God will judge you if that is how you owe yourselves
