The United Kingdom has issued a statement concerning reports that it is setting up a meeting between Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari, ex President Goodluck Jonathan, and militants of the Niger Delta in London.
The UK govt, in a terse statement issued by the Press Officer of the British High Commission in Abuja, Joe Abuku, said the reports were untrue.
“Media reports suggesting that the British government has set up a meeting with President Buhari, former President Jonathan and representatives of Niger Delta groups to discuss a solution to recent violence in the Niger Delta region are incorrect,"
“We are aware that President Buhari is currently in London seeking medical attention. We are not aware of any meetings on the Niger Delta while he is there.”
There had been reports that Buhari could hold peace talks with militants in London, following the incessant attacks on oil installations in the country.
