The Nigerian Senate has summoned the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, to explain the basis for the forgery charges pressed against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.
The resolution to summon Mr. Malami followed a motion by Dino Melaye who said on Tuesday that “there is impending threat to democracy” and that the executive arm of government plans to enthrone “one man rule”.
The senate wants the AGF to “explain and justify his action with evidence and why it does constitute gross abuse of his office”.
Six senators spoke in “total support” of the motion, saying “it is time to defend democracy”.
The government accuses Messrs. Saraki and Ekweremadu of falsifying the Senate Rules used in electing Mr. Saraki as senate president in June 2015.
The controversial election took place against the wish of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, which Mr. Saraki belongs to.
The senators said Tuesday the Standing Rules used for the elections of their presiding officers were not forged.
Speaking after the motion had passed, Mr. Ekweremadu said, “those who are using their office to persecute others should remember no condition is permanent”.

Shame on the Senate Chamber or the National Assembly should you become a pecil in the fingers of the Executive or Judiciary. We are watching as perpetrators are unfolding their egoism and devilish plans but they should not blame the same political radicality on the National Assembly when they start to exhibit or respond commensurabably or or accordingly. The National Assembly has more than enough been distracted or dragged to the mud as result of some so-called powerful Nigerians who felt that they have been denied the controlling of the National Assembly.

ReplyDeleteD most useless senate in d whole wide world!
ReplyDeleteThey ask for 700 million each for constituency project funds one of the future that delayed the passage of the budget, this why they wanted the same old thieves in the leadership of the houses, recently they have sponsored a bill for key members of the national assembly to be accorded life Pension, and someone would come in here spent 15-20 minutes to make up a blog supporting these criminals. lets say they get this life Pension, not forgetting that the likes of Akpabio, Saraki and all others who have been former governors b4 have passed similar laws in their states and are already on pension for God sake how wicket could this men continue to take the Nigerian nation before we go in to revolt? people are in the street suffering let somebody tell me what people oriented law have been passed for the last one year that we can beat our chest to call these persons our representatives.... its a shame!!!
ReplyDeleteD earlier the SENATE rise up and defend our democracy the better for the country. Yesterday was Fayose Account and now Senate Principle Officers. I wonder how the executive will say that there was a forged document while d senators themselves are saying there was none.
ReplyDeleteD senators must know dat Ken Nnnamani was tested with 3rd term agenda n he stood his ground, today all hail him for his courage. If the 8th Assembly decide to hide their faces, posterity will judge them. Ask Ibrahim Mantu, he knows better.
God bless Nigeria
