A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Boye Oyewumi, yesterday, took a
swipe at state governors owing workers in their states.
He said there is no excuse for any governor to owe workers salary.
Oyewumi, who is an APC governorship aspirant said the responsibility of any government is to pay the wages of workers.
“Welfare of workers should be paramount to any meaningful government.
The situation is abnormal. Any governor, who cannot pay his workers has no business in government and should resign.
“Salary is the right of every worker and it has to be paid promptly. Therefore, any governor who fails to pay his workers promptly has failed the people and should be shown the way out of government.
“The first priority of any responsible government is the payment of wages and salaries of workers,” he said.
The governorship aspirant, who faulted zoning arrangement within the party said all eligible and interested aspirants should be allowed to vie for governorship position in the state regardless of place of origin, stressing that zoning was unknown to the constitution of the APC.
He said the APC is prepared to take over the reins of government in the state, adding that the leadership of the party has concluded arrangements to organise a credible primary election for all the aspirants of the party.
He assured that the primary election would not divide the party, saying other aspirants would support anyone who emerges through a transparent primary election during the November 26 governorship poll.
Oyewumi cautioned moneybag politicians against use of money to oppress other aspirants who have meaningful programmes to offer for the state, saying money should not be the factor to determine who will be presented by the party.
He said the incumbent administration of Governor Olusegun Mimiko has failed the masses of the state, hence the clamour for change in all parts of the state.
He promised to develop the state through agriculture and improved infrastructure, with the mineral resources being developed to cater for the economic needs of the state.
