The new Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi is in the news again and this time, Nigerians are concerned about his recent visit to the residence of Nigerian football star, Obafemi Martins.

Some Nigerians who understand tradition especially that of the Ooni’s position have argued that the Oba is not suppose to go about visiting people but the people should come to his palace to see him.
While he is busy partnering with like minds to come invest in his state and how to help in building the Nigerian economy, the Oba, recently shocked Nigerians again by paying a visit to the home of Nigerian footballer, ObaFemi Martins.
The Oba’s visit has incited various opinions form some Nigerians who see it as a wrong move.

ReplyDeleteThis is joblessness. The man has no defined role beside he is bored . The only issue here is task payers money for this galavanting. He just wants to enjoy himself locally before he starts touring abrolike PMB
ReplyDeleteThat's the new face of leadership, why are you all surprised, have you all forgotten that we are in the era of change, so everything has to change. Baba travelling abroad, and the travelling around.
ReplyDeleteOni of Ife visiting Martins is the height of royal ridicule...The king needs to be tutored and advices about how not to be a king. This is an abomination..A king of his status should be in his palace while people pay him homage not on the other way round...Royal ridicule of the modern age.
ReplyDeleteAll you people that are condemning the Ooni are out of fashion and primordial in your assessment of the dignity and honour of the royal stool. For crying out loud, the Ooni is a young man who would like to relate with young minds like Abofemi Martins and the likes rather than be bored down with the old men in the palace with archaic ideas and traditions that do not help to show care and love to subjects and citizens. So, please leave the Ooni alone to enjoy his youth and his majesty. After all, He is the Ooni and gets what he wants.
ReplyDeletepls don't tell OOni to stop o, He has not visited my o. am Adefunke, Eyijueledumare, OmoObaOrun, OmoOshatoJuOshaLo, OmoAkobiOBAToJuOBALo.OmoKiniuEyaJuda.
ReplyDeleteHummm! Tradition is made by man and for man in acceptable way of leaving together as a people and it is therefore subject to change. Crying wolf where there is none is bad. Ooni wants to be closer and felt by his subjects, visiting the low and the high is not out of place or must he only visit the high and we'll placed ones? The fact that a crime have been accepted over the years does not make a right or a yard stick of measurement. Please castigate not the Ooni for his visits, it's a welcome development
ReplyDeleteEver the Almighty God our Creator visits us His creatures provided our decorum is approved by Him.Therefore, our oba the Ooni has every right to visit anyone he deems fit.No demystification of his exalted office whatsoever.QED.
