N4.7 Billion cash: We won’t join issues with Obanikoro – EFCC

Following the challenge thrown at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission by former Defence Minister for State, Sen. Musiliu Obanikoro, to show evidence of his sons’ involvement in money laundering, the commission said last night that it would not be distracted but would do its job.
The Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, revealed that there was no need for the commission to dissipate energy on a matter that was straightforward and incontrovertible.
Uwujaren challenged Obanikoro to come out of his hiding and face the evidence before the commission in court so as to prove his innocence and that of his children.
Obanikoro’s challenge to EFCC followed Tuesday raid on his Lagos home by operatives of the commission, who carted away some property from the compound in the absence of the former minister and his two sons, who have been under its radar over alleged receipt of N4.7 billion from the office of the National Security Adviser, Sambop Dasuki in 2014.
The cash was reportedly traced the two men- Babajide and Gbolahan-who are both directors of a firm used in siphoning the funds from the Office of the former National Security Officer, Sambo Dasuki.
An EFCC operative confirmed to newsmen last night that the operation, which involved a crack team of investigators from the commission, swooped on the expansive compound of the former Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Ghana in Parkview Estate in the early hours of Tuesday in search of vital documents to nail him.
