A group of lawyers under the aegis of the Legal Vanguard for Rules of Law and Democracy, have condemned comments credited to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, describing the person of Honourable Justice Muhammed Idris as a “silly, stupid and ignorant person” following the judgment delivered by His Lordship ordering the different regimes that have been in power from the Obasanjo era to publish recovered funds as part of the anti-corruption campaign.
The lawyers in a statement issued by their President, Barr. Toluwani Adebiyi, said Obasanjo’s outburst was unbecoming of an elder statesman and was clearly contemptuous of the court and must not be allowed to stand.
“We decry the abysmal state of affairs in our country wherein the “big shenanigans that make up our political elite throw caution to the wind and attacking notable judges of integrity. We hold that if not checked and vehemently resisted, this could be the beginning of the journey to judicial disaster and inordinate subjugation of our legal system. This is the only way the voice of social justice can be amassed against the voice of an incongruous individual,” they said. The man has said the truth, an outgoing government hands over everything to an incoming govt. if you need details of recovered loot since a certain period, just ask the government in power, they will be able to provide details, government is a continuum. hence, the Judge was silly and ignorant for delivering such a judgement.
ReplyDeleteWhat should we expect from a fellow kinsman?
DeleteMy name if Babajide and I am a lawyer. I have not seen the judgement and I still can't believe what I am hearing.
ReplyDeleteThough is true that as long as there is an appellate system, the proper and civilized step to take is to appeal a judgement you do not like if it is true that a qualified judge in 2016 gave a judgement or Oder against Jonathan government, that judge is anything but sound. In fact silly. We should not over protect the judge. The order should be limited to present government. There is always only one government. You do not give unenforceable judgements or orders. You will be actin in vain and ridiculing your court..
My very humble submission.
Why is this judge giving Baba Iyabo the National Effant Terible whom we all hate with a passion a mouth to talk. He made sense for the first time since he left office in 2007 after losing his 3rd term bid.
ReplyDeleteObasanjo- that fantastically corrupt elder "statesman" with loose trouser zip - should be charged for contempt of court.
ReplyDeletethe Judge was silly and ignorant for delivering such a judgement.Obasanjo is correct for saying so.Judges are some of the major problems we have in Nigeria.e.g Ibori was set free by Nigerian judges but was imprIsoned in London for the same case.I wonder what is wrong with Nigerian judges?
ReplyDeleteY can't he account for d money.? Godfather
