Manchester City owner Khaldoon Al Mubarak has praised Nigeria forward Kelechi Iheanacho’s remarkable rise from the youth team to the senior side.
Iheanacho was promoted from the youth ranks by former manager Manuel Pellegrini after impressing during pre-season last campaign.
The 19-year-old forward made 35 appearances, scoring 14 goals in all competitions.
In an interview on Manchester City TV, Al Mubarak expressed confidence that Iheanacho will get more playing time under Pep Guardiola, while also praising the Super Eagles star for his goal-scoring feat.
“We’ve had some good experiences this year with pushing some of our talents from the academy and Kelechi is a good example really,” Al Mubarak said.
“Credit to Kelechi in his age to rise and score 14 goals at this level. He has got a goal per minute ratio that is quite remarkable compared to many players around the world.
“I think next year and more years to come he will have more minutes. And I hope he will keep that goal per minute ratio as he is right now.”
He stated further that Guardiola will afford City’s academy players more opportunity come next season.
“We (City) have some very talented players, all these players will get the chance. Pep, I am sure, will spend a lot of time and also have a lot of time with these players from the academy. I am sure we will see more of them making it to the first team next season.”
