If Aregbesola implements Hijab verdict, Christians will wear church garments to school – CAN

Osun state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, OS-CAN, has warned that if Governor Rauf Aregbesola proceeds with implementing the recent State High Court judgment on wearing of Hijab by Muslim students, Christian students will start wearing church garments to the state public schools.

This was contained in a communiqué issued and signed by the state CAN Chairman, Rev. Elisha Ogundiya, at the end of an emergency meeting of the state CAN Executive Committee of Heads of Blocks and Heads of Churches held in Osogbo on Tuesday.

The meeting deliberated on the outcome of the Hijab case with particular reference to the 3 June, 2016 judgment of Hon. Justice Saka Oyejide Falola of the Osun State High Court sitting at Court No. 5 Osogbo and resolved to, among other things, appeal the verdict.

According to the communiqué, “OS-CAN states that it finds itself unable to agree with the judgement in its entirety as we have reasons to believe that it represents a study in premeditated adjudication that runs against the printed grain of legal submissions made before him. We have unanimously decided to appeal the judgement.

“Specifically speaking, Justice Saka Oyejide Falola deeply violated the principle of fair hearing when he refused and or failed to hear, let alone rule, one way or the other, on the application for a joinder in the case properly filed and brought to his attention in open court by the interested parties whose schools were taken over forcefully by the government and stood to be affected by the judgment he later proceeded to deliver.”

  1. Whaoooo!
But this is just a clear gunshot of shadow. I think the Muslim dressing hijab is part of the Islam as seen in Quran. OS-CAN can only have point if it can show clearly in Bible where the church garment is specified as part of Christianity.
Besides, how would OS-CAN manage the garment uniformity as hijab? As all denomination can never agree on one sutana or the Catholical dress.
My advice is let us accept the truth as truth. Use the time chase or fight for better right for Christiandom. God bless Nigeria...Godisnice.

  2. Is Ogbeni a religious bigot? Can he even claim it as one of his achievements. Osun people are suffering due to bad governance and this man with his face and beard like he -goat is talking about dress mode or code. Will it be permissible if Babalawos children come to school with their gears and attires?

    2. We need to tolerate one another. In Nigeria everyone has right to practice his religion to the fullest. If court says wearing of Hijab to school is allowed fine I believed this is equivalent to Beret cap. And if OS-CAN believe that wearing of garment to school is also part of their right let them seek court injunction rather than creating scene. If court ratifies it, fine. Let us all be law abiding citizen. We should not take law into our hands. I rest my case.

  7. The threat by Osun State CAN is a step in the wrong direction. Instead of advising Christian students to wear church garments to public schools, the sensible and civil thing to do is to appeal the high court decision on the right of Muslim female students to wear hijab to school. Church leaders should not promote acts of lawlessness.

It is worrisome that these so-called 'men of God' are kicking against God's commandment. God commanded in the Qur'an for Muslim females to wear hijab, and no such commandment was given to Christian females in the Bible.

These Christian leaders should repent before the wrath of God descends on them. No one can fight God and hope to win.

    1. Oga, I stand to be corrected, what you just said is no coherent with our standard of school when it was established. Are all government schools Islamic or are all government schools Christians by foundation. The school was established to be liberal and has code of conduct. If Islam establishes and mandates her followers to put on hijab, it should be worn after school. This your statement could cause a war.
Be realistic for once and let us forget religion in this country.

  9. Abi they wan replace Uniform with Hijab ? Anyway for peace to rain Hijab can be won but moderatly for obvious reasons. Except the school is termed an Islamic school. Hijab should be approved by solely the school the same way a school determines the color and design of their uniforms and sandals.
