The Department of State Service, DSS, on Thursday urged an Abuja Federal High Court not to allow its witnesses testify against former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki(rtd) in an open court.
Counsel to the secret police, Dipo Okpeseyi in his submission before the Justice Ademola Adeniyi -led court said its witnesses may be in danger as loyalists to the former NSA boss, who are still serving in the military will take on them. He stressed that Dasuki is well known in the country’s military circle.
Worthy of mention is the fact that the prosecution since the inception of the trial had three applications before the court which sought the protection of its witness.
Dasuki who was the former NSA to the immediate past President, Goodluck Jonathan, is facing trial for alleged unlawful possession of firearms.
Okpeseyi alleged that the sophisticated weapons found in Dasuki’s residence prove that the former NSA boss was a threat to national security.
Dasuki’s counsel, Joseph Daudu in his reaction prayed the court to dismiss Federal Government’s appeal, stressing that the allegations against his client were baseless.
After listening to arguments from both counsels, Justice Adeniyi adjourned the matter till September 13 to 15 for ruling.
