Federal government will today lunch the school feeding programme, which is expected to ensure the feeding of over 24 million primary school children, would have each of the children given one meal per day in the first year of its operation.
The programme will be preceded by a Stakeholders Forum holding in Aso Rock on Thursday to be addressed by the Vice President.
A statement by the Professor Osinbajo said that administration was at the final rounds of preparation for the commencement of the free school feeding programme for primary school pupils.
The Federal and State governments will review the Strategic Plan for the rollout of the scheme which is part of the 500 billion Naira Social Investment plans of the Buhari administration.
The strategic plans will run until 2020 and form the cornerstone of the nationwide Home Grown School Feeding (HGSF) programme which, according to the government, would provide a nutritious hot meal a day to over 24 million primary school children.
The HGSF programmes provide free school meals procured from local farmers.
These programmes offer a ‘win-win-win’ for children, farmers and communities alike.
According to the Vice President, the Home-Grown School Feeding programme would help school pupils become better students, boost the local economies and create new jobs.
He said: “To achieve national coverage, the Federal Government is working in partnership with states and local communities and international organizations for the successful implementation of the HGSF programme.

Honestly, I tink it ll b an avenue of wasteful resources. If this money could b channel to provide employment or somtin better 4 teeming populace unemployed it ll go along way. Politicians ll hijack it, unrealistic ll b given
ReplyDeleteCalm down. Go to npower.gov.ng you'll see the plans of the government for unemployed youths, graduated and nun graduated alike.
ReplyDeleteThis is a welcome development but I must say that except it is well implemented it's going to be a waste of resources where the Federal government would be spending money but it would not reflect proportionately on the quality and sufficiency of food those children would be receiving. Few people would just become beneficiaries of the program at the expense of the targeted children. It would have been better for government to deploy this fund in providing quality education by improving on school facilities, quality and well paid teachers thereby improving the standard of public school to complete favourably with private school and by so doing reducing the burden that even civil servants are going through in providing quality education for their children in the not so affordable private schools.
