Switzerland were held by a determined Romania in their second Group A match at the European Championship on Wednesday in Paris.
The Romanians, who earned their first point of the competition with the draw, took an early lead against the favoured Swiss through a Bogdan Stancu penalty.
Switzerland right-back Stephan Lichsteiner was judged to have taken down forward Alexandru Chipciu in the box in the 18th minute. The Genclerbirligi midfielder then sent Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer the wrong way as he tucked his right-footed shot into the bottom-left corner of the net.
Switzerland, though, struck back after the break through a thunderous Admir Mehmedi strike in the 57th minute. From a corner, the Bayer Leverkusen forward pounced on a bouncing loose ball and lashed an unstoppable left-footed shot into goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu's far corner from 12 yards out.
Switzerland, now sitting on four points, will close out their Group A campaign against hosts France, who will play later in the day, on Sunday in Lille.
Romania, with just one point, will face Albania that same day in Lyon.
