England Boss Set To Drop Kane For Slovakia Clash

England coach Roy Hodgson has hinted that he could drop Harry Kane to the bench in the Three Lions last group game against Slovakia in Saint-Etienne on Monday in the 2016 Euro.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker, who was the English Premier League top scorer with 25 goals last season, has had a poor Euro 2016, failing to score against Russia and Wales.

Speaking in Sunday’s press conference ahead of Monday’s game, Hodgson said Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge could start against Slovakia.

“I’ve spoken to Harry and he’s been very good in training the last couple of days. He’s not suffering more from the season than anyone else,” Hodgson said.

“We have other players who haven’t played quite so regularly, but there’s no problem in that respect. As for Jamie and Daniel, they did very well when they came on (against Wales) and would like another chance.

“We have options in those front positions. It’s a decision that has to be made.”

“I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary [to change the team]. The players are in good shape. It wouldn’t be a problem if I wanted to keep the same side, but there are players who would like to play and have been knocking on the door to play.

“I have the option because everyone is anxious to show what they want to do. It’s a question of what we’d like to do, rather than what is necessary.”
