Buhari not in London for any medical treatment — Presidency

  • Buhari did not go to London for treatment but to rest.

The Presidency on Tuesday said President Muhammadu Buhari did not violate any rule in the treatment of his ear infection because he was treated by Nigerian medical experts in the country.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, stated this in an interview with our newsmen.

He was reacting to reports making the rounds that by traveling to London, Buhari violated the Federal Government’s rule that says that government officials will not be paid for foreign medical treatment, unless the case cannot be treated in Nigeria.

Adesina referred to the statement he issued on Sunday about the President’s 10-day vacation.

He explained that Buhari did not go to London for treatment but to rest.

He said the President had been treated in Nigeria and would only seize the opportunity of his trip to carry out further evaluation.

Adesina said, “You can check the statement we issued on Sunday again. The President did not go to London for treatment.

“We made it clear in that statement that he had been treated in Nigeria here.

“The medical experts here only told him that since he will be in London, he can seize that opportunity for evaluation.

“The President has not broken any rule.”

The statement issued on Sunday read, “President Buhari will take 10 days off and travel to London from Monday June 6th, to rest.

“During the holiday, the President will see an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist for a persistent ear infection.

“The President was examined by his Personal Physician and an E.N.T Specialist in Abuja and was treated.

“Both Nigerian doctors recommended further evaluation purely as a precaution.

  3. President Muhammadu Buhari’s letter informing the Senate about his medical vacation in the United Kingdom was Tuesday read on the floor of the Senate.

The letter entitled “Medical vacation” read by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, was dated June 6th June, 2016.

President Buhari said in the letter addressed to the Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, “In compliance with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 Constitution as amended, I wish to inform the Distinguished Senate that I will be away on a short medical vacation from 6th-16th of June 2016, and while I am away, the Vice President will perform the functions of my office.

  4. Apc is a disgrace. It is now a show of shame. Lies and deceit are all part of corruption which must be fought. So No part of Nigeria is suitable for vacation kwo! Even his farm at Daura? History is on and it is playing out what will make a Historical thriller. However, it is left for posterity to judge the major actors. Ci kena!

  7. You all should go and plunge into the oceans of depression because Buhari; your nemesis is going abroad for medical vacation. You wish the guy dead but he's waxing stronger, you all write foolish comments disguising as Anonymous. The proverbial father, son and the horse song by Chief Ebenezer Obey describes Nigeria's insatiable condition. Your best choice is to wish him well if you want hope for this country.

  10. Evaluation is a vital part of treatment. Further evaluation means further analysis and recommendation which simply put means further treatment. Does Adesina think most Nigerians are journalist, and as a result terrible in science and common sense? It is high time the presidency reveals the whole truth about the President's health so the average Nigerian can lend his/her full support to him for his honesty and also stand behind him no matter the decision. If the most "upright" Nigerian (Buhari) cannot be honest about a simple think like his health, then what would the most corrupt Nigerian (e.g. most of the people in the Senate and House of Reps) be capable of? God has to come down personally to help this country oh. If not...!

  13. Mr Femi Adesanya you should be sacked by now for gross misrepresentation and mismanagement of official information which is with the House of Assembly if this Administration is not CORRUPT.
It is a known fact that the presidency tendered a letter for medical vacation. Your zeal to earn your bread has beclouded your sense of duty to this Administration by masking the President and the Presidency as a HYPOCRITE,INSENSITIVE, UNCARING, MEAN and UNINTELLIGENT in the carriage of his administrative duties.

  16. I think lying is a part of change if you been telling the truth.
Having said this,Buhari's letter to the Senate was exactly the truth about his journey but Adesina's speech was actually in line with Lai Muhammed's speech each time he talks on issues raised by the president. If Buhari wants to get things right, he needs to further re-evaluate the utterances of his cabinet members. The president says something and they will say another thing in a bid to cover up the truth for their selfish interest. On a lighter note, pls mr president don't finish the money you recovered from the looters otherwise you become a member like the former EFCC boss.#Godsavenigeria#

  19. Nigeria was almagamated on lies, cheat, bitterness, false acquisition, deceit, hatred, murder and spiritual wicked in high places. It takes God alone to fix Nigeria and not a man. We've had leaders controlled by the Centre of wickedness one per cent of good intent but walloped up by these powers ninety - nine percent of darkness agents brewed to torment the nation to the path designed ages ago. Why enacting policies that cannot be implemented? If you're sick say it and Nigerians will pray for you. No one will stop you from going abroad for treatment rather than telling lies limitlessly. It takes a thousand lies to cover just one, please presidency don't bottle up Nigeria, cause what will happen soon if not curtail now will be a bad omen.

  22. What a shame, the letter transmitted to the National Assembly clearly said Buhari is on medical leave. How then can Femi Adesina say he only went to rest? Too many lies and deceit in this APC government.
