BREAKING: Former Super Eagles, Amodu Shuaibu is dead

Four-time manager of the Nigerian Super Eagles and Technical Director of the NFF, Amodu Shuaibu is dead.

Amodu Shuaibu has died on Saturday morning in Benin City, just three days after another ex-national team coach Stephen Keshi died in the same town.

“The Edo State Commissioner for Information, Kazeem Afegbua, called me this morning to inform me of Amodu’s death.

His corpse has been deposited at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital morgue in Benin City,” Edo FA chairman, Frank Ilaboya, said.

Amodu coached the Eagles severally, qualifying the national team twice for the World Cup in 2002 and 2010 but was not allowed to manage the national team at both World Cups.

The coach also led BCC Lions to win the 1989 FA Cup, breaking a long time jinx of northern clubs’ inability to win the trophy.

Following year, he led the club to win the Africa Cup Winners. He was the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation before his death.

No statement has been made on the cause of his death but close sources say he didn’t wake up from his sleep.

“When Keshi was admitted, he (Amodu) called me to enquire about his state. He didn’t sound like someone sick,” Ilaboya added.

  2. Something is wrong with this Benin city. The land needs cleansing. Two former Eagle's coach died in a space of three days in the same city. Edo state where the Oba will die and every man will shave his head gorimakpa. A place where the inhabitants will not cook with fire on a particular day all in the name burial rite of the late Oba. What an archaic tradition. Please Benin people embrace Christ now.
