UPDATE: Terry offered one-year contract extension

Chelsea have offered John Terry a new one-year contract extension and it is now up to the former England international to decide on staying at Stamford Bridge for another season.

Terry and his agent, Paul Nicholls, met with Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia and chairman Bruce Buck for talks at their Cobham training ground this week.

The club confirmed on Friday that Terry could stay beyond June 30, when his current contract expires, though Chelsea have left it late for the 35-year-old to make a decision.

A club spokesman said: 'Marina Granovskaia and Bruce Buck met with John and his agent this week and offered him a one-year contract extension.

'With it coming so late in the season, this is a big decision for John and his family and it is something that they are now considering.'

Chelsea supporters staged a demonstration at Anfield on Wednesday night as they demanded Terry be handed a new deal with banners showing how many trophies they won under their captain.

There was believed to be a fear that protests could overshadow Chelsea's season finale at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, as fans also planned to sing Terry's name throughout.
