It's been indeed a torrid time for some students of University of Lagos, as many of them have been forced to sleep outside their school hostels for the last few days.
It can be recalled that the protests that rocked UNILAG, and forced the school to close down for some weeks, meant when students resumed on the 2nd of May 2016, they were required to meet new measures put in place, which included signing of some documents that would act as clearance to enter hostels.
Speaking with NigerianEye, a student of the school revealed that they have been asked to obtain a certain form of clearance before they can be allowed into their hostels, however this new development has been tough for some students who are known as ‘squatters’ who could not get hostels an they had to stay with other students who got hostels.
Also the second category of those affected are the students that bought bed spaces from other students, they also had difficulty going through the clearance process as the school authorities did not recognize their ownership of the hostel space, because they were not acquired directly from the school management.
NE gathered that since Monday (2nd of May) squatters have been reportedly being forced to sleep outside as they can’t get they need to get into the hostels, and sometimes even had to endure harsh cold/rainy weather conditions.
A student shared pictures of other students asleep, this is what she had to say: “Here are pictures to show how UNILAG management are unduly punishing students that are squatters. This is unfair and something should be done about it because exams starts in less than a week. The school also set down new rules for students who live in the hostels. They are to obtain clearance before being admitted into their hostels.' Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
