AS Roma starlet Sadiq Umar has spoken of his eagerness to be called up by Nigeria after his breakthrough season in the Italian Serie A.
The 19-year-old striker from Abuja Football College slipped through the Nigeria national team selectors, like former Inter Milan and Newcastle United star Obafemi Martins.
This season, Sadiq Umar joined Roma on loan from Serie B side Spezia and he has taken his chance in the big time – He scored 14 goals in 10 matches for the Roma youth team before he made his main team debut against Bolgna in November and scored his first Serie A goal a month goal against Genoa.
And the centre-forward, who could also play as a second striker or on the wings, has now declared his willingness to represent his country.
“Yes, I will be very much honoured to represent my country and give my 100%. I can’t wait to play for Nigeria,” he told reporters.
“But I also know that Nigeria is blessed with lots of players both at home and abroad.”
Sadiq Umar will be eligible to feature for the Nigeria U20 team, the Flying Eagles, the Olympic team as well as the Super Eagles.
