PSG defender Serge Aurier will be remanded in police custody until at least Wednesday after being arrested outside a nightclub in Paris on Monday night.
The Ivory Coast defender – who was temporarily banned by his club earlier this year for posting a video on social media in which he insulted his coach Laurent Blanc – is alleged to have "insulted and hit a police officer".
The incident took place on Monday night, with Aurier accosted by police after his Porsche Cayenne was causing a traffic problem as he attempted to leave a nightclub.
AFP reports that, “Aurier was ‘aggressive’ and ‘quite contemptuous’ when police tried to breathalyse him. It was then he allegedly ‘elbowed’ the policeman in the throat.”
The player contests the police’s version of events, claiming he has been victimised and suffered facial injuries due to rough treatment.
He is being held at a police station near the Champs Elysees and his detention was extended on Tuesday morning. PSG have confirmed Aurier’s arrest, but have made no further comment in regard to the situation.
