Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has lauded the performance of Nigeria youngster Kelechi Iheanacho after he scored a brace in a 4-2 loss at Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday.
The former English champions were beaten by an in-form Southampton at St. Mary’s on to further dampen their top-four aspirations, but the loss notwithstanding, Pellegrini still had time to single out Iheanacho for special praise.
“It’s very important for a player to score goals. I was happy with the way he (Iheanacho) played today. I’m happy for him with the goals that he scored,” Pellegrini told City’s official website.
“In the first half we had clear options to score so they scored the two goals but we got back in it with Kelechi,” added Pellegrini.
The goals were Iheanacho’s 12th and 13th for the season in all competitions and the 19-year-old forward continues to shine despite City’s inconsistent run in the Premier League.
