The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, has commended its members and civil society allies for turning out “enmasse” on Wednesday to prosecute the strike action against the increase in pump price of petroleum product.
The congress praised those who supported the protest, for taking action “in spite of teething challenges”.
“We salute their courage, patriotism and sacrifice in the face of overwhelming acts of threats and treachery,” the union said.
The strike had little effect on normal daily activities in several states on Wednesday. Full compliance was recorded only in a few states.
But the union vowed to continue with the protest, saying “no reasonable struggle comes easy, and this cannot be different”.
“Thus, in pursuance of the mandate given by the NEC of the Congress in conjunction with our Civil Society allies, the protest continues tomorrow,” it said in a statement Wednesday evening.
“Accordingly, we urge you to mobilise your members, friends or colleagues for the continuation of the protest tomorrow.
“You are requested to assemble at Berger Roundabout tomorrow at 7 a.m.
“For those who are yet to join the strike action, we similarly urge you to muster the necessary courage to be part of this historic struggle in defence of yourself, the weak and the vulnerable.
“No level of comfort today or primordial sentiments should blind us to the cruel realities of the increase in the pump price of the petroleum products as what we are seeing is just the beginning,” said the statement signed by Peter Ozo-Eson, NLC’s secretary general. That's wonderful. A good step in right direction...Nothing good comes easy...May God save the Nation...Well,as events are unfolding...
ReplyDeleteHow l wish there is heavy rain or sunshine today, then you people will lean how to stay in your office. What a time wasting activities.
ReplyDeleteWhich support? Is NLC blind? People are busy going about their lawful and unlawful businesses and they're thankful for support! If NLC goal was to totally shut down the economy then they've failed woefully this time.
ReplyDeleteNLC is deceiving itself. It can never be the same again having pollarise themselves. They did not get the usual post negotiation Ghana-must-go this time around, what a disappointment.
ReplyDeleteNLC is made up of criminals who want Nigeria economy to fail. True Nigerians do not want strike because it will not help our country.
ReplyDeletePresident Buhari is fighting corruption and the NLC leaders are being used to destroy the hard work.
They will not succeed because Nigerians are smarter now.
A journey of a thousand mile begins with a step, you cannot count numerically how many people give support to NLC with the ongoing strike from your residence, nor have everyone understand why one should join hence almost 90% and above of people in our country are illiterate as they did not attend school at all and those of us who did has not been following up what has been going on in the society because they don't visit vendor nor sites on the internet as I learnt that "if something must be hidden from a black man it should be put into a book" now know that "Readers are Leaders" most unions organization etc has a choice that even I cannot tell except God alone. So I say continue with the strike.
ReplyDeleteN L C are just wasting time. They will not succeed. Not very body are participating. Just call off the strike now now before it's too late. Fuel can never come down
ReplyDeleteThe strike must take place any how, the injustice is too much in Nigeria, let's grow up and fight for our right, Buhari and his government is not bigger than Nigeria, they have nothing to offer ever since they asume office rather they invoke hardship on the poor masses who agitated for the so called change, this change to worst soever, this present administration is full of oppression, people find it difficult to eat yet they are increasing fuel price, na wa for this kind mentality o. We need to pray seriously Nigeria lack leadership and i want to soud it clear Buhari is not the Messiah of this country, it is only that will deliver Nigeria from satanic government, i am really ashmed to be called Nigerian's
ReplyDeleteGone are the days! Anyway, I begin to understand that, if you don't make such attempts how can you find it easier in accounting/retiring for big money out of the trillions of naira being deducted from workers salaries as dues.
ReplyDeleteHowever, as for support from Nigerians, you are only wasting your time on the flop & commercial strike or protest.
"Cowards die many times before the actual death but valiant never die but once". Of all the situations I have seen in Nigeria it seem to me so unimaginable that men with brain as the content of their skull will support a government of high handedness and disguised democracy. A democratically elected government that have decided to destabilize all institutions established to maintain checks and balances in the government. Rendering the Nigerian Judiciary inconsequential, using labour and trade union organization leadership tussle as a opportunity to take decisions without oppositions. A government built on lies and deceit which have taken witch hunting of oppositions using EFCC and their likes. A government that came into power with the support of stolen money and yet is fighting corruption. A government that have once said there is nothing like subsidy now what is he Buhari removing. It is high time we started learning to render apologies or face the wrath of the masses who have been deceived with this lies from the pit of hell. Common people let's reason and forget about this deceits that will not help us much.
