Motorists express joy over improved fuel supply

Motorists in Hadejia, Jigawa, on Saturday observed that the positive effect of the new fuel pump price regime of maximum N145 per litre had become manifest just few weeks after its introduction.

It would be recalled that the Federal Government had recently introduced new pump price of maximum of N145 for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise called petrol, as part of deregulation process to end scarcity of petroleum products in the country.

A check in Hadejia showed that fuel stations, which hitherto always out of stock of the commodity, are now dispensing petrol to consumers. There were no vehicular queues at the stations as against what was witnessed in the past weeks. The stations were dispensing a litre of petrol at N145 approved pump price.

A cross section of motorists commended the government for adopting an effective measure to end the lingering fuel scarcity in the country. Mr Maikudi Ahmed, a resident, said that the measure had started yielding positive results and ended scarcity of the product.

Ahmed noted that the introduction of the new pump price regime had encouraged improvement in supply and compliance with regulated prices by oil marketers. Malam Ali Magaji, a commercial bus operator, said that the measure had eased difficulties they experienced in sourcing for the product.

“Petrol is now available in all filling stations,” he said, and called on the government to adopt practical measures to ensure compliance with the new price and guard against diversion of the product.
Other road users interviewed were of the same opinion, calling on Nigerians to support the measure as its posive impacts had started manifesting.
