Manchester United assistant coach Ryan Giggs will reportedly quit Manchester United this summer if the club hires former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho in place of Louis van Gaal’s.
The 42-year-old has served as the Dutchman’s assistant for the last two seasons and it was the club’s intention at the start of Van Gaal’s reign to hand Giggs the job in 2017.
However, the Red Devils have gone backwards under Van Gaal this term and Mourinho is the hot favourite to take over at Old Trafford in the summer.
Giggs knows that replacing Van Gaal is his best opportunity to manage the club he joined as a 13-year-old and leaving to gain managerial experience could expose his frailties as a boss.
However, he’s being urged by Class of ’92 team-mates Philip and Gary Neville to gain experience elsewhere and the Mirror claim that he would be unwilling to extend his education as an assistant under Mourinho.
If the Portuguese is appointed, it would see Giggs end his 29-year relationship with the club where he is the side’s most decorated player in its history.
