There are huge indications that several top stars may miss Super Eagles' friendlies against Mali and Luxembourg later this month.
A top official informed reporters that some players have already contacted the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) they wish to withdraw from the matches, which are now aimed at preparing the country for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers starting in October.
“Some of the players want to stay out of the matches after a long and tiring season, while some say they want to be part of the Joseph Yobo Testimonial, which will be played same day as the Mali game in Paris,” the official said.
“Later this week a clearer picture of those fully committed to the friendlies we will get, but it is most likely some replacements will be named.”
Already, CSKA Moscow striker Aaron Samuel, who was one of the 26 players called up for the Eagles games, is a major injury doubt after he was injured his knee in the Russia Cup final on Sunday.
West Ham striker Emmanuel Emenike has also berated the NFF for fixing the Mali match same day as Yobo’s farewell game in Port Harcourt, saying that will deny some of his friends in the Eagles from attending.
