Kano governor commissions first ever 100% Hausa news radio station

Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, yesterday commissioned the first ever 100 per cent Hausa news radio station, 93.1, known as Arewa Radio, describing it as a medium, where the public can freely express their views on the ongoing democratic dispensation.

With the slogan: ”fadi ra’ayinka’, meaning “express your view”, Ganduje explained that the emergence of the radio station will compliment the ongoing democratic dispensation in Nigeria.

During the commissioning, Ganduje commended the management of the station for distinguishing itself by initiating the 100 per cent news content medium in Hausa Language, where Kano residents, including the entire world, would freely express their views, regardless of their social class.

Ganduje, who said there is no better time for people to have their say than in a democratic government, expressed optimism that Arewa Radio will not only educate, entertain and enlighten the general public, but would also provide employment opportunities and expose its staff to a world class standard of radio broadcasting.

“Arewa Radio Station has come to stay; it’s coming at very important time during the democratic system of government. I believe it will educate, entertain and enlighten members of the public and the people of Kano in particular.” Ganduje said.

Ganduje, who also expressed satisfaction over the choice of sports, being one of its focal points, urged the management to support Kano Pillars FC, towards topping the table of the Nigerian Professional Football League.

Commenting on his administration’s achievement in the past one year, Ganduje said although the state is also feeling the pinch of the current economic crisis across the country, his government was able to step up efforts towards diversifying its internally generated revenue by blocking identified leakages, which have yielded a remarkable development in the state.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of the new radio, Engineer Amin Ibrahim Moussalli, said the contents of the station’s schedule, which focuses on timely and accurate news, current affairs and sports programmes, were initiated with the aim of sustaining peace and preserving Hausa heritage, norms and values in the region.
