Giwa FC goalkeeper dies

Giwa FC of Jos have lost one of their goalkeepers.
Timothy Chichi Okere reportedly died on Wednesday after a prolonged spinal cord-related ailment according to a report by allnigeriasoccer.com. The goalkeeper died in Jos – the home base of the club.
Okere was in goal throughout Giwa’ s campaign in the Nigeria National League and played a leading role towards helping the team to gain promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League three years ago but later lost his first team shirt to Flying Eagles goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke at the commencement of the team’ s campaign in the NPFL.
He was reported to have sustained a back injury in training two years ago and was hospitalized at Bima hospital in Jos was later discharged but readmitted following a relapse.
The Media Officer of the team, David King, was said to have confirmed the unfortunate incident to allnigeriasoccer.com but said the club was awaiting communication from the player’s family on the burial arrangements.
