The Federal government, weekend, called on the people of the South East geo-political zone to be patient, law-abiding and peaceful as President Muhammadu Buhari was committed toward bringing to a halt the issue of insurgency across the country. This came as Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, yesterday, doled out N100 million to fund Neighbourhood Watch groups in 472 communities to complement the services of security agencies in the state.
The Minister of Science and Technology, Chief Ogbonnaya Onu, made the call in his country home at Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state, where he received key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, within the South East zone in his residence. Onu, who appealed for calm among the people of the zone, charged them not to take laws into their hands as the President had already given directives towards curbing the recent menace of criminality. “The President has condemned it; we appeal to our people in the South-East to exercise patience.
Following the perceived inaction of security agencies in Enugu State that culminated in the slaughter of 46 natives of Ukpabi,Nimbo community, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, yesterday, doled out N100 million to fund Neighbourhood Watch groups in 472 communities to complement the services of security agencies. The governor also mandated the Ministry of Poverty Reduction and Human Capital to quickly inaugurate Neighbourhood Watch groups in all the 472 communities to forestal a recurrence of Fulani herdsmen invasion of any part of the state.
This came on a day, the traditional rulers and town’s union presidents in the state in a communique stated in part: “We are also grateful to the governor for the donation of the sum of N100 million in support of the security efforts and activities of the communities. We have resolved to go back to our respective communities to mobilize the people and sensitize them on the need to support the initiatives of the government as they relate to security of lives and properties in Enugu State. Security watch outside fed govt security - good move, your lives is in your own hands, it starts with self help. Beware of your own kinsmen who would sell you for money.
ReplyDeletePatience indeed...everything about this govt is patience, people are been slaughtered, and you are still talking about patience...mtsheeew
ReplyDeleteFr. Mbaka 'the Miracle Worker' what did God tell you about this. As the Chaplain of APC you should use your miracle on the Fulani Herdsmen before they enter your church and village and burn them down. Just bind them so that anywhere they are in Nigeria their hands will paralyze once they want to attack any tribe or person in Nigeria. Also help this government which you are part of to solve the problem of fuel scarcity buy turning the Anambra, Imo or Nwangele river into fuel so that tankers will just put hose there and load fuel.
ReplyDeleteI believe this statement is wrongly directed. The Northern elders should be speaking to these herdsmen that have no value for human lives instead of people that have remained peaceful all this while. Are they supposed to patiently wait for their own turn with machettes? Are the cattle rearers now running their own government and above the law so that nobody can control them?
ReplyDeleteTo avoid the chicken facing the pot of soup, you don't appeal to the chicken, you appeal to the killer. Let's for once face the truth and stop hiding our heads in the sand like the ostrich.
Kpom Kwem. You hit the nail on the head.
DeleteThis unprovoked attack by the Fulani's herdsmen in Igbo land is an act of war and must be responded to with the same gravity it deserves. Calling on the South Easterns to be calm and not to take the laws into their hands is the most insensitive and unfornate statement that can not heal the wounds and pride of our people that have been put to test by the recent happenings. Our attackers did not wait to for the law to attack and kill our people, desecrate our land and worship places. Ndi Igbo''The little bird that is dancing in the middle of the road has someone beating the drums for it in the nearby bush''If we do not do something very drastic about this, the rampaging terrorist herdsmen will not stop. Listen, before you talk about the law of Nigeria, you should first talk about universal law of respect for human life. Our existence has been threatened severally in the past with all manner of killings, maiming, etc while we applied caution and restrained but this can not continue,if we should see the next generation as people. If a fulani man can not keep his cattle without AK47 and you are being asked to go to your farms with your hoes and shovels then you should do the summary yourselves. The time to put politics aside and face our common enemies is now. The time to fight back is now and God help us we must.
