Fayose blasts Buhari, Kachikwu for increasing fuel price to N145/L - 'You promised to reduce fuel price to N45 during your campaign'

“When they were seeking for votes from Nigerians, they promised to reduce petrol pump price from N87 to N45 per litre, they promised to create three million jobs per year, they said $1 will be equal to N1 and above all, they promised to pay unemployed youths N5, 000 stipends and provide one meal a day to pupils nationwide.

Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has accused the Federal Government of insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians with the latest increase in the pump price of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol.

Fayose said the hike was a “demonstration of the level of hatred the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government had for Nigerians.”

Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, had earlier on Wednesday announced that effective from Wednesday, May 11, the new pump price would not be more than N145 per litre.

The Ekiti governor said he was waiting for the reaction of those who took to the streets to protest when fuel subsidy was removed by the Dr Goodluck Jonathan administration in 2012.

He urged labour unions in the country to stand by their members always, not minding the political party in government

Fayose in a statement on Wednesday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said the latest hike in pump price of petrol was another vindication of of his predictions on what to expect in 2016.

The governor alleged that the scarcity of petrol being experienced in the last three months was deliberately orchestrated by the federal government to pave way for the already conceived increment.

He said: “Nigerians are now left at the mercy of political liars who took over power by deception and are governing by deceit.

“When they were seeking for votes from Nigerians, they promised to reduce petrol pump price to from N87 to N45 per litre, they promised to create three million jobs per year, they said $1 will be equal to N1 and above all, they promised to pay unemployed youths N5, 000 stipends and provide one meal a day to pupils nationwide.

“Instead of fulfilling their promises, they have increased petrol pump price to N145 per litre, increased electricity tariffs, retrenched thousands of workers and imposed untold hardships on Nigerians.

“As they did in 2012, if labour leaders do not also stand up for the people at this time, posterity will not forgive them.”

    1. This is absolute rubbish from you and your governor. Nigerians reject that of GEJ because he is too corrupt to trust. Now we are having somebody who is not there to enrich himself and friends, therefore nobody will demonstrate moreover the southeast and South South never participated in the last fuel pump price demonstration so the North will not participate in this one as well. No more mass looting and things are like this talk less of if we had voted GEJ and his stealing not corruption cohorts, Only GOD knows if Boko haram wouldn't have captured the entire North not to talk of fuel prices. No matter what happens Nigerians made a better choice during last election. PDP uses religion, tribe, divide and rule to distablize and campaign in this country, the aftermath we are still facing. Whatever happens Nigerians are wiser and can change their government through ballot any election time. Only a fool will continue to eat one type of food always not minding kwashiorkor therefore we cannot have continued to be voting PDP as constituted last time. Again how much was bag of rice, cement, dollar to naira and fuel pump price 1999 and how much PDP left them after 16 years of looting. We are tired of China life PDP wants us to live. lets'face the reality.

    2. GEJ removed subsidy when oil price was 100 usd, the nation of We Nogo gree shutdown the nation. We pointed out that system was riddled with corruption. No argument made sense to the Nay Sayers. Now Oil Price is 45 Usd the pump price has been increased to the price that GEJ attempted when oil price was 100. We are being asked to applaud this travesty of incompetence and ineptitude.
People have said that Boko haram has been defeated by this Government. I reply elements in this government celebrated Boko Haram and threatened that a fight against Boko Haram was a fight against the North. They for long defended the Noko haram and requested that they be flown inresidention Jet. We now not only have Boko Haram we have Fulani Herdsmen with Kill and Go swagger mustering and pillaging all over the country. The lies of the Governmane have been found out. They should beg for forgiveness and ask Jona how he managed. The Kworoption that they have loudly complained that they are fighting has not produced one single conviction. They have been convicted on the pages of newspapers. They have resorted to Kidnapping for ransom. The change agenda is a massive failure.

  2. @anon 10.56pm thanks so much for your comment, the government did not increase pump price,it just deregulated the downstream sector and ordered that whoever is selling shouldn't sell above 140 it could be lesser,it will end scarcity and reduce the pressure on naira by the the high demand of forex as importers will source for forex from the secondary source,we have never had this level of transparency in our oil sector,I didn't regret I voted for change #istandwithbuhari

    1. Time will tell! What about promises made before elections? Elections are won through manifesto's. Governments are held acccountable for promises made to electorates in civilized societies. Governments are assessed objectively and not subjectively. You just want to sweep the truth under the carpet. Truth be told in civil societies this government would be tagged one that ca not be trusted. They have told too many lies.

  3. All I can say is that this govt has good intensions but d dark forces in this country that does not want porgress holds d country down. As far as we have these forces of darkness d country cannot move forward.given d kind of peculiar people that we are I think that we need this "sincere" govt to stay for like 25yrs (just that d buhari is already old)for d forces of darkness to get ride of and the country will move forward. We must not practice d kind of democray that others practice.

  4. My friend can you listen to yourself. Does good intention equate to meeting your KPI? In professional organisations, are individuals appraised based on intentions or performance? Is performance not ones ability to meet his targets by surmounted challenges? Pls stop being sentimenta and be realistic. May be u will when u can no longer afford 3 square meals

  7. Change comes gradually it take time to change but I must said that both the past government and present government they are the same there is no deference between the two governments. Politicians has take the chance to enrich their pocket and they will said politics is a game, that they have to make use of the opportunity to satisfy their want. not knowing thet there is people that make it possible for them to be there people that voted for them to be what they are called today but I must tell you that Nigeria have teach us a lesson to be wise not to be desperate on any thing that comes out from a dissever or whatsoever thanks

  9. Deregulate but subsidize nnpc filling stations to sell at 86 per litre, let the government compete with the private sector, the private sector wont have a choice but to drop their prices over time. Soon nnpc wont have too many people patronizing them and wont have to pay too much to subsidize supply....whether we like it or not, Buhari is our president, next time be smarter when you vote..mumu pple.

  10. Hhmmm! Is a big and fantastic shame for a whole former minister and a serving governor to be openly ignorant on a simple fact that, "policy is a process not an event".
I pity the good people of Ekiti for making a wrong choice.

  11. Sometimes I wonder what people come to social media to say. So many of you here don't know that when you tell a Nigerian man not to sell above 145# he will definitely sell at 145# no matter how much he bought from the depot. Even DPR fuel station I went to this morning is selling at 145#. When people quote the figures of the stolen money by last administration I begin to ask my self what's our crude oil and gas production and sales per day? What's our daily income from revenue drive? Then how much do we spend in infrastructure, payment for salaries, Government expenditures, state allocations and securities? What is then left in our federation account.? Check it out. Was it only one political party we have in Nigeria? Why are the other political parties campaign expenses source not being investigated? So many forces worked against GEJ government and policies but yet we never had it this tough. Food for thought.
