Facebook Honour Mahrez, Martial, Ranieri With Award

Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez emerged as the player of the year in the Facebook Football Awards, beating teammate Jamie Vardy to the prize.

The Fennec Foxes star picked up the PFA Player of the Year award last month in recognition of the major role he played in helping his team to a sensation Premier League title.

The 25-year-old North African has scored 17 goals and contributed 10 assists this season, impressive stats which helped him earn the Facebook prize.

“It’s something special, and something big as well, because it’s from all over the world, and I thank them, and thanks to all of my fans. I love all my fans. I am very happy,” Mahrez is quoted by the Mirror in response to the award.

The Algerian has been linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium, but last week pledged that he will remain with the club ahead of their UEFA Champions League debut next season.

Leicester completed a hat-trick of wins in the Facebook Football Awards, as Claudio Ranieri was named manager of the year and his team won the club of the year prize.

Meanwhile, Manchester United forward, Anthony Martial was named Young player of the year.
