Andy Murray and Amelie Mauresmo have decided to mutually end their two year coaching relationship.
The Frenchwoman had been working with Murray for the last two years and helped him return to No 2 in the world rankings.
Mauresmo gave birth to a son last summer and has found combining motherhood with travelling around the world a major challenge. She is also captain of France’s Fed Cup team.
Murray appointed the former British player Jamie Delgado to his coaching entourage last month, but it remains to be seen whether the Scot will bring in a more senior figure to replace Mauresmo. Since he began working with Ivan Lendl he has preferred to have a more experienced coach working alongside someone younger.
“I’ve learned a lot from Amelie over the last two years, both on and off the court,” Murray said. “She’s been a calming influence in the team and we will all miss having her around. I’ll take some time to consider the next steps and how we progress from here, but I’d like to thank her for everything she has done. She’s been an invaluable member of the team.”
Mauresmo said: “Working with Andy over the last two years has been a fantastic experience for me. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being part of the great team of people he has around him. Dedicating enough time along with the travel has been a challenge for me. I wish him and his team well and I hope he goes on to win many more titles.”
